Productivity and Innovation Credit

Announced: February 18th, 2010

The PIC is part of the Singapore Government's plans to increase Productivity and drive Innovation in Singapore.

Benefits under PIC:

1) 400% Tax Deduction

For YA2011 - YA 2015, businesses can enjoy tax deduction/ allowances at 400% on up to $400,000 of expenditure per year on each of the qualifying activities (up to a maximum of $3.2million for YA2011, YA2012 and $4.8million for YA 2013 - YA 2015).

2) Cash Payout of up to $30,000

Businesses can exercise an option to convert their expenditure into a non-taxable cash payout. Up to $100,000 of their total expenditure in all qualifying activities can be converted at a rate of 30% to a maximum of $30,000 per year.

This option is available for YA2011 - YA2013.

About PIC:

Productivity and Innovation Credit (PIC) was enhanced in Budget 2011 to provide tax benefits for a broad range of activities along the innovation value chain.

Six activities that are classified under the Innovation Value Chain are:

1. Acquisition or leasing of prescribed automation equipment/ software;
2. Training of employees;
3. Acquisition of Intellectual Property Rights;
4. Registration of patents, trademarks, designs and plant varieties;
5. Research and development activities;
6. Investment in approved design projects.
